Though it began manufacturing operations in 1866, Campbell first made its lightweight, rugged plate lifting clamp in 1938. It was designed by an Englishman named Volz. Because it incorporated forged parts of heat treated, alloy steel, the Campbell clamp earned a worldwide reputation for reliability and long life. It is widely used by steel mills, warehouses, and fabricating shops and is much preferred because its forged parts give increased strength yet are lightweight.
